Transform Your Life with the Guideposts for Wholehearted Living
Guidepost 1: Cultivating Authenticity & Letting Go of What People Think
Every day we are inundated with messages about how we are supposed to act, what we are supposed to look like, and who we are supposed to be. Come reconnect with your authentic self and break free of being controlled by what other people think.
Guidepost 2: Cultivating Self-Compassion & Letting Go of Perfectionism
We are often our own harshest critics. Learn to treat yourself with more kindness, and liberate yourself from the rigid confines of perfectionism.
Guidepost 3: Cultivating a Resilient Spirit & Letting Go of Numbing & Powerlessness
All of us face times of struggle and overwhelm. Learn to build resilience and hope in times of challenge and break patterns of numbing that move you away from your authentic self.
Guidepost 4: Cultivating Gratitude & Joy & Letting Go of Scarcity and Fear of the Dark
We all have moments of feeling that we are not enough. Come learn how a daily gratitude practice will invite more joy into your life, and discover that you are truly enough.
Guidepost 5: Cultivating Intuition and Trusting Faith & Letting Go of the Need for Certainty
Our inner voices are all too easily drowned out by the clamor of the outer world. Learn to discern the wisdom of your intuition in order to navigate your path forward and release the illusion of certainty.
Guidepost 6: Cultivating Creativity & Letting go of Comparison
So many of us have been harmed by the lie that we are not creative people or by the belief that our creations don’t measure up. Come light the spark of your own creativity, recognize what you uniquely bring to the world, and release harmful patterns of comparison that douse your internal flame.
Guidepost 7: Cultivating Rest & Play & Letting go of Exhaustion & Productivity = Self-Worth
We are taught to measure our worth by the number of work hours we can cram into our lives. Instead, embrace rest and play as essential to a fulfilling and balanced life, and discover that this nourishes and renews not just your personal life but also your professional life.
Guidepost 8: Cultivating Calm & Stillness & Letting go of Anxiety as a Lifestyle
So often our hectic lives leave us anxious and depleted. Learn to nurture inner spaciousness through pausing to mindfully embrace moments of stillness, and stop allowing worry to govern your life.
Guidepost 9: Cultivating Meaningful Work & Letting go of Self-Doubt and “Supposed to"
We’re told we have to sacrifice doing what brings us joy in favor of practicality. Reclaim your passion for what you do by weaving together work you love, work that reflects the person you truly are rather than who you are “supposed to” be.
Guidepost 10: Cultivating Laughter, Song and Dance & Letting go of Cool and “In Control”
From a young age we’ve been shut down by the message that we won’t be accepted as our authentic selves. Embrace full, joyful expression of your voice and body, and liberate yourself from the need to manage how you’re perceived by others.

FAQ for the Gifts of Imperfection Program
12 Months seems like a very long time. Is such a lengthy program really necessary?
There is a lot to explore in each guidepost, and it takes both time and space to make lasting change. A month gives space to deepen in your understanding of both halves of the guidepost, to reflect on how those patterns fit into your current experience, and to take concrete steps to apply that guidepost in your life. We could sprint through all 10 in a few days or a matter of weeks, but that would be overwhelming and leave no space to actually grow. I want each participant to have room for the integration that allows you to not just think about the guidepost but also start to live it.
It's hard for me to plan that far ahead and things can come up. What if I miss a session?
There will be a pre-recorded version of each session available for access where I will walk you through the material, discussion questions, and activities.
I have a whole lot going on in my life. Is there room for this program?
This program is designed to be flexible to fit nearly any schedule. The weekly materials are short segments (<8min each) and total only about 15min, so they can fit into your life at times that work well for you. The live monthly sessions are also provided as a recording so that you can catch them afterwards if you have to miss one.
With a 12-month program, I think I need to try it out before I can really know if it is the right fit. In case I find it is not the right program for me, is there a money-back guarantee?
Absolutely. If you try out the program in the first month and find it is not the right fit for you, you can email to request a full refund up until February 29th.
I have never taken an online course before, and I'm concerned that I won't know how to navigate it. What if I have trouble accessing the materials?
It is really common for new technology to feel daunting. You will access the course through a simple login portal (email and password) in your favorite web browser, and this can be done on virtually any device with internet access (computer, tablet or smart phone). In case you run into any snags, there will be written and video tutorials available to assist you in getting started.
I haven't used Zoom before. What if I have trouble setting it up?
Here again, unfamiliar technology can be intimidating, but I’ve found Zoom to generally work well. It is a free app that can run on a desktop, laptop or tablet with a webcam, as well as on a smart phone. How-to videos for using Zoom will also be included in the introductory materials for the program. If you would like to test it out, Zoom is a great medium for the foundation call at the start of the program.
I don't see myself as a "creative person." Is this program really for me?
So many of us have received negative messages around our capacity to be creative at some point in our lives. I agree with Brené Brown that there are not creative and uncreative people, just people who use or don’t use their creativity. The activities for this program are not about artistic skill or talent, but rather are another way to deepen understanding and insight – they are about the process much more than the product.
I know people with whom I'd really like to share this journey. Can I choose the people who are in my Zoom group?
A limited number of custom private Zoom groups are available. If you have a group of 4-6 people you’d like to share the program with, I am happy to work with you and the other group members to find a time for the monthly session that works for everyone. This is a great way to build connection with people you care about, especially those that may live far away.
I already own Gifts of Imperfection. Why are you sending everyone this book?
I want to be sure that everyone has a copy of the book as it is core to the program – this way everyone can literally be on the same page. If you have a copy already, it’s a wonderful gift to give someone in your life who may not yet be familiar with Brené Brown’s work.

My Story
I went through much of my life as an ardent perfectionist and over-achiever. I was forever pushing myself so that even when I was doing something I loved, I felt an overwhelming pressure to perform. There was little if any time to simply be present and enjoy the moment, and my inner critic had become much too loud. I believed that this was simply part of my personality, something that could not be changed. Even when my harmful patterns led to debilitating health problems, I only managed to rest for a few months before I started to rebuild my to-do list. When I finally woke up and realized my life needed to change, a mentor told me that it was “time to work on my perfectionism,” and recommended a book called Daring Greatly by an author who was new to me – Brené Brown, PhD.
Through Brené’s research and candid writing I finally realized the root of my unhealthy patterns: shame was running my life. I was sinking all of my energy into a vortex of trying to prove my worthiness while at the same time trying to hide my imperfect self from the world. I embarked on a new journey of finding a more vibrant and joyful way of being. As it turned out this journey came too late to heal my marriage of over a decade, but it did come in time for me to have deep compassion for myself and my former husband in the process of divorce. I have learned that at the core of my experience is my relationship with myself. As I have healed this central relationship, all of the other aspects of my life have been positively impacted. I have cultivated a life where there is so much more joy, connection, gentleness and spaciousness than I had ever known before. I have grown in my ability to hear my body’s needs, and my physical health is better than it has been in years. A few years ago, I could not have believed this fundamental reshaping of my life would be possible.
